Course Markings

The course will be well marked with ribbon and arrows and we will have course marshals at critical turns.

NOTE: While we encourage runners to preview the course ahead of the race, we ask that you do not enter TOEC property. We have special permission to use trails on the TOEC property on race day only. Stay on blazed Fahnestock State Park trails.

Turn-by-Turn Course Description

25k and 50k Runners:

Head out from the Starting Line located at the Taconic Outdoor Education Center by the Pavilion near the boat dock. Heading South/West out onto Mountain Laurel Lane for 0.5 miles, runners will turn right onto a TOEC privately marked trail to access the Catfish (Red) Trail.

Runners will turn left onto Catfish Trail (R) and continue straight on this Trail until it intersects with Dennytown Road. A road Marshall will be placed to assist runners who will cross Dennytown Road to access the Three Lakes Trail (Blue) on the north side of the Dennytown Parking lot and head North. Runners will turn left onto the seasonal dirt Sunken Mine Road then shortly after turn Right on the Old Mine Railroad (Yellow).

For 50k Runners ONLY (the 50k Loop):

Runners continue (Y) to Charcoal Burners (Red) intersection and turn left onto (R). A road marshal will be placed to assist runners who will cross State Road Route 301. Runners will turn left onto the Perkins Trail (Yellow) and remain on public access easement through Glynwood Farms and back onto state property for 3 miles.

Runners turn left onto the Perkins Access (Red), right onto Roundhill Bypass (Green) then left onto the Fahnestock Trail (Blue). After descending Round Hill, runners will stay straight onto School Mountain Road (White), turn left onto East Mountain Loop (Red) then again left back onto School Mountain Road (White).

Runners will turn right onto the Old Wiccopee trail, which is now unmarked (formerly Blue) then stay straight onto marked Blue until it transitions to Charcoal Burners (Red) and proceed on Red. Runners stay on Red as it crosses back over Route 301 and continue until the intersection with Old Mine Railroad (Yellow) where they will turn left onto Yellow.

25k Runners (and 50k Runners rejoining from the 50k loop described in the above paragraph):

Continue onto Old Mine Railroad (yellow) and turn left on Three Lakes Trail (Blue). Runners will run right onto the Clear Lake Trail (green) and stay right on Clear Lake when it turns to (Blue) through Durland Scout Reservation back to Park lands at Sunken Mine Road. Runner turn left onto Sunken/Candlewood Hill Trail (red) and stay on red when it turns right. Runners stay on Candlewood Hill until it intersects with Bells Hollow Road and turn right onto the unmarked access road back to Sunken Mine Road.

Runners turn left onto Sunken Mine Road and stay on it as it becomes the Three Lakes Trail (Blue). Runners turn left off Sunken Mine Road to stay on (blue) heading south back to Dennytown Road. Runners Cross Dennytown road and proceed back north on the Catfish (Red) north of the Appalachian Trail. At the intersection with Moneyhole Mountain Trail (Yellow) runners turn left onto (Yellow) and remain as it turns right towards Catfish Pond.

Before reaching Catfish Pond, runners cross over back to the Catfish Trail (Red) using a 10’ unmarked link trail signified by a cairn. Runners turn left onto (Red) proceeding north. Runners turn left onto an unmarked trail that brings them back onto the lands of the Taconic Outdoor Education Center along the east side of Duck Pond, then left onto Mountain Laurel Lane to the finish line, same as the Start Line.

5.5 Mile Runners:

Head out from the Starting Line located at the Taconic Outdoor Education Center by the Pavilion near the boat dock. Heading South/West out onto Mountain Laurel Lane for 0.5 miles, runners will turn right onto a TOEC privately marked trail to access the Catfish (Red) Trail. Runners will turn left onto Catfish Trail (R).

Runners will turn right onto Moneyhole Mountain Trail (yellow). Runners will turn Left onto Chimney Top (White) run up and around the chimney and back down. Runners turn left onto (Yellow) and stay on yellow as it turns right towards Catfish Pond. Before reaching Catfish Pond, runners cross over back to the Catfish Trail (Red) using a 10’ unmarked link trail signified by a cairn.

Runners turn left onto (Red) proceeding north. Runners turn left onto an unmarked trail that brings them back onto the lands of the Taconic Outdoor Education Center along the east side of Duck Pond, then left onto Mountain
